We first met back in May of 2003. We were both relatively new to the Real World Fellowship at Abundant Life Christian Fellowship, and Real World was hosting a hike through Pinnacles National Monument. During the hike, we chatted and got to know each other, and if this was one of your typical Hollywood romance movies, we would say that a friendship was sparked during that initial hike, and that this friendship blossommed into a romantic relatinoship.
But, this isn't Hollywood. The truth is that nothing much happened over the next five months.
But during the late fall/winter of that same year, we started talking together a bit more, and an intrigue started to develop. Mike was eventually able muster up the courage to ask her to hang out. And so one night, along with Lani's co-worker and Mike's high school classmate Pam, we all went to dinner at Mango Cafe in Palo Alto. Mike, who can tend to be quite loquacious, ended up giving Lani a headache by the end of the night due to his incessant "getting to know you"-type of questioning.
Needless to say, any potential interest on Lani's part ended quickly.
But then we move forward another five months, this time to the springtime of 2004. During his birthday dinner, Mike talked about wanting to plan a trip to Las Vegas in late April, and Lani was interested in joining. In talking and doing the planning, Mike asked Lani to hang out, once again. But this time, Mike eased off on the incessant questioning, and we both had a really good time. We continued to hang out more and more over the next couple of weeks and months, and by late June, a romantic interest had developed.
We will be celebrating our two-year anniversary on June 17, exactly one week before our wedding. |
